This *The Birds of America* (Birds of America) was created by American naturalist and painter John James Audubon. The complete set of illustrations consists of four volumes (435 plates), engravings depicting various birds native to the United States, featuring a total of 497 bird species from North America, with the size of the paintings matching the actual size of the birds. This series was first published in batches in Britain between 1827 and 1838.
The author of *Birds of America*, John James Audubon, was born in Haiti in 1785, grew up in France, immigrated to the United States at the age of 18, and died in 1851. From a young age, he developed a strong interest in birds and was determined to depict the birds of America in the most realistic form possible. It is said that before painting, he would first shoot the birds he captured and then stretch them on metal wires. Each painting took approximately 60 hours to complete. As a result, the size of the book far exceeded that of a normal book, and Audubon once struggled to find a printing press in the United States to print it. Ultimately, he found printing presses in Edinburgh, Scotland, and London, England. [1]. The book was once hailed as the greatest and most influential work of the 19th century, and only 120 sets remain in the world today.
Additionally, the author was also working on a companion publication, his *Ornithological Biography*. This five-volume set was first published in Edinburgh in 1831, featuring vivid descriptions of each bird and including other information, such as their habitats.
